The Founder

Avi Kulkarni,
director of Oculus Health

Mr Avi Kulkarni is the director of Oculus Health and is an experienced consultant ophthalmologist based at the London Clinic and King's College Hospital, where he is the lead glaucoma consultant. He specialises in glaucoma and cataract surgery,as well as general ophthalmology and eye emergencies. Mr Kulkarni performs minimally invasive glaucoma surgery,such as Istent implant, as well as trabeculectomy, Baerveldt and Ahmed shunts, Preserflo microshunt and Omni canaloplasty and trabeculotomy. He offers a wide range of laser treatments for glaucoma including selective laser trabeculoplasty, laser iridoplasty, laser iridotomy and cyclodiode laser.

  • Mr Kulkarni is a highly experienced cataract surgeon and trainer for cataract surgery. As well as undertaking routine cataract surgery, he frequently operates on advanced, complex cases, including those with glaucoma and angle closure, which require specialised techniques to ensure the very best surgical outomes.

    Following his graduation in 1995 from the University of London, Mr Kulkarni undertook advanced, clinical glaucoma fellowships at King's College & St Thomas' Hospitals and Moorfields Eye Hospital, where he gained specialist expertise in the management of glaucoma and complex glaucoma-related cataract surgery. He worked at a number of prestigious hospitals in London before being appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in glaucoma at King's College Hospital in 2009.

    Mr Kulkarni is passionate about medical education and currently mentors and trains medical students, orthoptists, optometrists, and junior ophthalmologists. He has trained many UK and international glaucoma fellows to perform specialist glaucoma surgery, with expertise in medical, laser, and complex surgical management of glaucoma and glaucoma-associated cataracts. These fellows are now all successful glaucoma surgeons practising as specialists in the United Kingdom and across the world, including Switzerland, Canada, Singapore and Australia.
